2017 What Floats Your Cardboard Boat Race!

Join the story and lets have some big fun while kicking off our fall fundraising efforts to better our community. Human powered boats made entirely of cardboard will race around the Urban Fisheries pond at Cascades Park and compete for trophies in individual heats. It is all happening on Friday, September 8th at 4:00 PM.

New for 2017! The theme is “COMICS” Each boat must have at least 2 paddlers!

Race Day Schedule:

  • 3:00 Entire crew check-in & judging begins
  • 3:45 Safety briefing for all participants with Sheriff’s Dive Team
  • 4:00 Race begins! Boats will be randomly assigned to a heat. The winner of each heat will move to the final race
  • 4:45 Parade of Boats- all boats not in the final heat are invited for a relaxed lap around the pond.
  • Encourage spectators to vote with their dollars for the “People’s Choice Award”. They can text FLOAT to 30306 to vote for their favorite boat anytime leading up to the event. They can also vote for their favorite by making a cash donation on race day during kickoff. The boat with the most $$ in the jar and paid in “text-to-give” wins this category. All proceeds go to the United Way of Jackson County.
  • Award Categories- 1st place, 2nd place, Judge’s Choice, People’s Choice, Best Theme Representation and Most Spectacular Sinking.
